Chief Gross' appointment will be a historic moment for the city and state as he will become the first African-American to serve as Boston's Police Commissioner.

Alongside House Speaker Robert DeLeo and MBLLC members, Chief Gross spoke of the unique and important responsibility for law enforcement and the legislature. Chief Gross explained, "We go to the people, just as you do. We listen to the people, just as you do. And then together we make this city the best that it can be, because we believe in inclusion and being collaborative and being family."
