On Thursday, November 7, 2019 the MBLLC met with House Speaker Robert DeLeo to discuss a range of priorities including diversity, housing, transportation, and more. With important legislation and budget matters coming before the legislature, the meeting was critically important in order to ensure leadership is aware of how Black and Latinx populations would be affected by the proposals.
While the Caucus has met with Speaker DeLeo previously, the meeting was particularly successful as the two offices agreed to begin meeting on a more regular basis similar to the reoccurring quarterly meetings the Caucus holds with Governor Baker. On Thursday, November 7, 2019 the MBLLC welcomed Boston area residents as they spoke about the issues and concerns Black and Latinx communities face. Some of the topics that arose included gun violence prevention, accountability, education funding, restoring prisoner voting rights, and much much more. The listening session was the second in a two part series. The Caucus now plans to create a report compiling the various remarks, topics, and proposals shared during the sessions to help strategize on how to address these issues. Those who were not able to attend can view the full Boston listening session below. |
